The School of Communication and Media includes careers in the fields of broadcast media and journalism. This school of study also encompasses English and World Languages.
Students receive hands-on experience using state-of-the-art equipment and study both print and broadcast. As they advance, students learn television production skills. Students also produce and host a live broadcast on closed circuit TV each school day. Other opportunities include involvement in speech & debate, filmmaking and acting for TV and Film.
92.7 The Tiger is the only student-run radio station in Jefferson County Public Schools that broadcasts to the community. Students do everything from host music and talk programs live on the air, to run the technical side of live football and basketball broadcasts, to create sales promotions for the station.

Students can choose from three academic areas of focus including visual arts, performing arts (band, chorus, orchestra) and drama.
The Visual Arts wing includes open classrooms, a gallery, a photography studio and dark room as well as classes in painting, drawing and sculpture. Performing Arts students have a variety of chances to perform musically and benefit from the school’s partnership with the Louisville Orchestra. The program’s special focus on acting for TV and film puts drama students on a variety of real film sets and television studios. For example, FCTHS has partnerships with the Louisville International Film Festival, Walden Theatre, and several film production companies.

Students in the School of Analytical and Applied Sciences can focus on math or science.
Exciting opportunities abound for students to become involved in the FCTHS Go Green Movement. The program uses curriculum from multiple disciplines to better understand the environment in which we live. The program not only provides valuable learning tools, but also prepares students for environmental issues they will face in the future. Students benefit from the school’s partnership with 21st Century Parks.

This program offers programs in Social Sciences (History and Government), Marketing & Business, and Marine Corps JROTC.
The Marketing & Business program develops partnerships with businesses and has an active DECA organization that competes locally and nationally. This program also runs the Tiger Town bookstore where upperclassmen learn hands-on retail management.
Our U.S. Marine Corps JROTC program is nationally recognized for its sustained level of superior performance in winning dozens of state, regional, and national competitions. 2009 marked the tenth consecutive national championship for the Lady or Men's Leatherneck Drill Team.
